We Can Be Heroes

ST. LOUIS, MO - This weekend, October 29th & 30th, area comic book stores will encourage customers that “We Can Be Heroes” to help the victims of the Central VPA High School shooting on Monday. Throughout this weekend proceeds of sales at comic book shops all over the region will be collected to directly benefit the families and victims of the shootings.

Asked why this is important to them each store owner has this to say:

Mike Petrowich & Jake Dilly of Comics Headquarters “I don’t want to let myself fall back into “business as usual”. Hopefully we can help ease the burden of the victims and also show our customers a glimpse of what action can look or feel like.”

Martin Casas of Apotheosis Comics, “We’re happy to do our part. These mass shootings are so commonplace now that the public doesn’t expect anything to change. If at the very least we can provide troubled people in our community with role-models through these superheroes, maybe that will be enough to prevent a tragedy in the future.”

Dave Schmidt of All-American Comics As a spouse of a teacher it saddens and frightens me to know that events like this are too commonplace today. Schools should be safe havens for our kids and not a place to have these worries.”

Brandon Forrest of Altered State Comics  “This is important to us because tragedies like this affect the whole community and it's important we come together and do what we can to help the families begin the healing process. “

Eric Meyer of STL Comics "Hearing of these atrocities across the nation is always painful as no educator, student or their families should ever have to experience anything like it. But it hits so much harder being here at home, in the neighborhood I grew up in. We hope to see people across the metro area support the victims families of this horrific tragedy. We are all St Louis."

Each purchase will have proceeds going to victims funds and customers will have a chance to make an additional contribution directly in store. The We Can Be Heroes effort will continue Saturday and Sunday at participating stores.
