Matt Kindt, known for his groundbreaking graphic novels and collaborations, has teamed up with his mother to create an eccentric crime thriller. "Gilt Frame" is a three-issue whodunit published by Dark Horse Comics under Kindt’s imprint, Flux House, which focuses on crime, science fiction, and humor stories.
Margie Kraft Kindt is thrilled about the collaboration, emphasizing the joy of working closely with her son. They’ve developed a creative process, often acting out their characters' roles to brainstorm plot twists.
About "Gilt Frame"
The story centers on Sam, an orphan in his early twenties, and his well-off Aunt Merry, an antique collector and crime solver. Their latest adventure takes them from Paris to Hawaii to Montenegro, where they stumble upon a murder scene. To crack the case, they’ll have to deal with jewel thieves, art forgers, gun runners, and even a century-old ghost, all while trying to outsmart a French detective.
Matt describes Sam as the voice of reason, making sure Aunt Merry gets enough screen time to avoid embarrassing herself. Together, they tackle what he calls an "unlocked… UNHINGED murder mystery."

For Matt, working with his mom has been a nostalgic and formative experience, reminiscent of childhood crime-solving games she used to set up for him. This project brings him back to his roots, blending the playful essence of those early days with the excitement of creating a new crime scene together.

Matt Kindt is a Harvey Award-winning and NYT Best-Selling writer and artist of comics and graphic novels. Her essays and stories have appeared in magazines, newspapers, and on an NPR affiliate in NYC, and she has won awards and contests. This is her first published book, teaming up with her son, Matt. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with 3,821 boon companions—her books.
