Amazing Spider-man #249

Peter Parker, attending a housewarming party thrown by Harry and Liz Osborn, narrowly avoids revealing his Spider-Man identity when a partygoer almost catches him changing. Despite his embarrassment, Peter enjoys the party, meeting several attractive women and catching up with Mary Jane, who mentions her aunt's move to Florida while she stays in New York for modeling jobs. As Peter and Mary Jane are about to enjoy some poolside fun, Peter's spider-sense unexpectedly flares up, though there's no visible threat. Mary Jane’s playful push into the pool leads to both of them getting drenched.

Meanwhile, at the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson confides in his girlfriend Marla Madison about his past involvement in creating the Scorpion, who has since become a menace. As Jameson is haunted by the past, he reveals someone is blackmailing him. Later, Peter follows Harry to a secretive meeting at the Century Club, where the Hobgoblin appears as the blackmailer. The encounter turns chaotic when the Hobgoblin’s robotic decoy is revealed, and the real Hobgoblin attacks. Spider-Man intervenes but is overpowered by the Hobgoblin’s gas-filled pumpkin bombs that dull his spider-sense. The Kingpin steps in to protect Spider-Man, helping him recover and explaining that the Hobgoblin's threat to his operations prompted his intervention. As the Kingpin leaves, Spider-Man worries that his spider-sense may be permanently impaired.
